Laughter echoed through the courtyard of the Project Mercy free school as the children gathered for a day that felt wonderfully different from the usual rhythm of lessons and studies. This was a posada—a cherished Mexican tradition celebrating community, generosity, and hope—and for these students, it was a day filled with joy. From festive decorations and food lovingly prepared by teachers and staff to piñatas bursting with sweet treats, the posada has become a treasured school tradition.
The heart of the celebration came with the distribution of gifts from Project Mercy. Each child received a present chosen with care—small tokens carrying a powerful message: you are seen, you are valued, and you are loved.
Gifts were shared by Paula Claussen, founder of Project Mercy, alongside Construction Manager John Zawis and friend Yumiko Stevens, whose sweet puppy Bengi delighted the children throughout the day.
For many students, the posada was more than a celebration—it was a reminder of belonging and a reflection of Project Mercy’s mission to build not only schools and homes, but dignity, opportunity, and community.
