The Project Mercy construction crew along with volunteers worked on a hot day in Tijuana to build a new home in one day for the Parral Santos family.
Luz Maria Leydi (mom) Kevin René (dad), Kevin Saúl, Christian Aldair, Leydi Meredith and Vanesa Guadalupe live down a dirt road on the eastern outskirts of Tijuana. Both Luz and Kevin were born in Acapulco. They met while in high school and remained in contact after graduation, eventually forming a relationship. They have been together for 11 years. They migrated to Tijuana 6 years ago in search of work and a better life. Kevin works at a gasoline station and earns 2800 pesos per week (@$169)
Since they started school, the children have enjoyed going to learn and don’t like to miss school. Kevin wants to be a soldier when he grows up, Cristian wants to be an influencer when he grows up and Leydi wants to be a doctor. Little Vanesa is still too young and just likes to play.
In their own words: “Life is difficult in this colonia. Mainly the distances we have to travel to school or the market, as well as the lack of services such as running water and sewer. We do have electricity, but it is very weak. Our house is made of scrap wood, the roof is covered with a tarpaulin. During this rainy season water leaked into the house because the wind blew the tarpaulin away.”
We really need a better house so that our children will be happier, more comfortable, and more relaxed in a safe place. If you support us, we would be very grateful for everything you would do for us. We also wish that God will give you more than you give others. We thank you very much.
