On May 2nd, we welcomed two incredible build teams. One home was built by Incarnation Lutheran Church along with their house-building partners St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, both located in Poway and led by Mike Meziere. A second home was built by our longtime supporters, Encinitas Rotary, with Chris leading the team.
Both groups brought incredible enthusiasm and shared in the deeply meaningful experience of building safe, solid homes for families in need. In addition to their hard work, they also brought thoughtful gifts for the families, as well as a wonderful collection of Spanish-language schoolbooks for the Project Mercy school. Special thanks to James for this generous donation.
Fritz Steen served as team leader for Incarnation Lutheran Church, with John Cowart (“J.D.”) leading for St. Bartholomew’s. Under Mike Meziere’s leadership, the team built a beautiful purple home for a young family of four. Father Uriel and mother Mayra were overjoyed—especially knowing their 11-month-old son, Uriel Jr., now has a safe, solid floor where he can take his very first steps.
The family sponsored by Encinitas Rotary, the Castellano Morales family, includes parents and their two sons, Esmin (12) and Marwin (8). The boys were beyond excited to receive their new home—especially knowing they would get to sleep in the loft. Their excitement only grew when they each received a bicycle, thanks to Project Mercy board member Doug Hoffman. Encinitas Rotary did an impressive and efficient job building the home, and we were thrilled to welcome them back for another build. Special thanks to Pat Davis for spearheading the group.
It was a powerful way to begin the month, with several more homes to come in the weeks ahead.
From all of us at Project Mercy Baja—thank you for helping us build more than homes. You are helping build hope, dignity, and a brighter future for families in need.
