On a bright October 18th morning, the sound of hammers, laughter, and music filled the air as hundreds of volunteers came together for one incredible purpose—to build homes and transform lives.
Led by Project Mercy Baja Board member and President of Black Diamond Construction, Devin Beale, this year’s Baja Challenge was a resounding success. In just one day, 17 homes were built for families living in extreme poverty in the outskirts of Tijuana —each house built representing stability, dignity, and the promise of a better future for the grateful families.
Teams of volunteers, builders, and community members worked side by side, raising walls and spirits alike. From early morning to late in the afternoon, there was a contagious energy on the build sites—one powered by teamwork, compassion, and the unshakable belief that a single day of service can transform a family’s future.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Project Mercy’s Construction Manager, John Zawis, for his months of work in Mexico preparing the family sites for this remarkable event. Additionally, a big thanks to Ryan Holmes from Accel Framing Inc. for donating the hardware for this event!
Project Mercy Baja extends gratitude to ALL the volunteers who made this year’s Baja Challenge possible.
The companies participating in this year’s Baja Challenge: Belmont Park Entities, Black Diamond Construction, C2 Construction, CBRE, DPR (Phoenix, San Diego & SoCal), JLL, McParlane & Associates, Sombrero, Ware Malcomb, Vesta, Whitaker Investments, Whiting Turner.
