Encinitas Rotary kicked off our May program with their annual Mexico Home Build. Pat Davis spearheaded the event. They have been working with us for many years and are now able to jump right in under the lead of Chris Malek. Chris said: “They know what they are doing and everyone got right into it.”

The house was finished by early afternoon and the group had a lot of fun with the Lopez Cruz family during and after the build. Tomas Lopez Cruz even gave tamales to everyone to show his excitement and gratitude.

Natividad and Tomas have four children, Oziel, Maria, Uriel and Manuel. Tomas is a mason and can make $150 a week when he can find the work, Natividad helps her husband when she can, earning $75 per week. Oziel and Maria are not going to school because they cannot find a placement for them, instead they go to work with their father. The younger two are in 4th and 6th grade.

Natividad explains that her husband’s work is not steady enough to “make sufficient money to buy anything beyond our household needs”. They are a very grateful family trying their best to provide a stable life for their children.

Thank you Encinitas Rotary for making the Lopez Cruz families dreams a reality.
