On Friday, May 2nd, we had the joy and privilege of traveling to the Project Mercy school to celebrate Día de los Niños—Mexico’s annual Day of the Children. It’s a day that honors the joy, resilience, and boundless spirit of children, and thanks to the incredible teachers at the school, this year’s celebration was nothing short of super.

The theme? Superheroes. And every detail—from the decorations to the games to the creative costumes—brought that theme to life.

The moment we arrived, we were greeted by a sea of color, music, and laughter. The school, which serves 60+ amazing students, had been transformed by the dedicated teachers into a superhero wonderland. Capes fluttered in the breeze, painted masks sparkled in the sun, and each child walked a little taller, fully embodying their inner hero.

The teachers had gone above and beyond to prepare a full day of fun and every child received a gift, but the real gift was the joy written all over their faces.

What stood out most wasn’t just the festive atmosphere—it was the deep love and care these teachers and volunteers poured into every detail. They made sure that each child felt seen, valued, and celebrated. In a community where resources are often limited, this event was a powerful reminder that joy doesn’t require extravagance—only heart.

We left inspired, humbled, and full of hope. It’s days like this that remind us why Project Mercy’s work is so vital—not just building homes and schools, but nurturing opportunity, dignity, and connection.
