We have said it many times in the past few years, but, once again our Mexican crew proved their weight in gold by “going above and beyond” the expected, in order to build the last house of 2022. We had been listening to a dismal weather forecast all last week and hoping against hope we could somehow build the scheduled home for the Guerrero Grajeda family this past Saturday, December 31, 2022. Their shack was made of scrap wood and they only had plastic sheeting for a roof.
Single mother Julieta sells household items at street markets, her earnings are spotty and even on a good week she only brings home around $95.00. She did have a more steady job but lost it during the pandemic. What they can eat depends on whatever she earns for the day. Her eldest daughter, nineteen year old Angelica, has applied to two universities and hopes to be either a graphic designer or engineer. Fifteen year old Leslie also hopes to follow a career in art.
Led by Roberto, the crew jumped to help her in the middle of last week and now the three ladies have a safe and dry house to call home. It is a wonderful way to end the year and welcome in 2023. Thank you all.
Happy New Year to everyone, we look forward to providing more families with solid homes in 2023.
